Good Friday 2026 Quotes: Bible Verses & Puritan Messages Commemorating Jesus Crucifixion To Share With Friends & Family – Mashable India

For the unversed, Good Friday is more of a grieving day than a celebratory one, as it commemorates the crucifixion of Christ, which, according to Christianity, is the substitutionary work for the atonement of sins, leading to the salvation of the believers. With Good Friday, the season of lent is almost over for the Catholics (and the Orthodox Christians; note reformists don’t celebrate) as we enter into the Passion Week, which leads to the Crucifixion of Christ or Jesus Christ. Here’s how the events unfold according to the gospel texts in the New Testament.
Palm Sunday: When Jesus arrives in Jerusalem on a donkey, where he is welcomed with cheering followers with palm leaves
Temple Cleansing: Grieved by the merchandising of the temple, Jesus overturns the money changers, accusing them of turning His Father’s House into a house of merchandise.
Maundy Thursday & Last Supper: That evening Jesus celebrated the Jewish feast of Passover (Exodus from Egypt), with his disciples, where he washes their feet and also foretells of the betrayal (by Judas Iscariot). He later estabishes the communion with bread and wine.
Agony at Gethsemane: The event is followed by Jesus’ agonizing prayers in the garden of Gethsemane
Betrayal by Judas & Arrest: For 30 pieces of silver, Judas gets Jesus arrested
Three Trials on Friday: Jesus is first presented at the Jewish council, aka Sanhedrin, on the accusation of blasphemy. The second trial is in the presence of Roman governor Pontius Pilate, who finds Jesus innocent. Pilate sends the 33-year-old battered messiah to King Herod, who makes a mockery of him and dispatches back to Roman custody.
Condemnation by Crucifixion: Despite not finding him guilty, Jesus is condemned to death on the demand of the jews.
Crucifixion, Burial & Resurrection: You can read the entire account of the events in the four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
Herewith we have curated some quotes from puritans, Church fathers, and such on the redemptive work done at the cross of Calvary.
Hope you observe the day remembering the sacrifice at the foot of the Calvary, that was followed by victory over death on the day of resurrection.
