From July 10-12, the Naudet Library in Verona has organized the fifth seminar in the Women and the Bible series, this year entitled “Guarding the Thresholds”. The participating theologians are Grazia Papola, Donata Horak, Silvia Zanconato and Emanuela Buccioni.
This year, Palermo is celebrating the 402nd Feist of Saint Rosalia, one of Italy’s most eagerly awaited and well-attended events, which attracts thousands of visitors every year. The highlight is the evening of July 14, when the traditional Triumphal Chariot of the Santuzza parades through the historic centre. Since 1624, the Feist has paid homage to Saint Rosalia, commemorating the miracle of the city’s deliverance from the plague, whilst religious celebrations take place July 15.
July 17 – Saint Marcellina
Born in Trier, Saint Marcellina was a mentor in the faith to her younger brothers, Satiro and Ambrose, particularly after their mother’s death. The latter was to become the famous holy bishop of Milan. On Christmas Day 353, she received the veil of virginity from Pope Liberius in St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. In 374, upon her brother’s election as bishop, she moved with him and Satiro to the Lombard city, where she continued her communal life with her companions who had come from Rome. She died in 397, a few months after Ambrose, and was buried in the Ambrosian Basilica. In 1838, Monsignor Luigi Biraghi of Milan founded the religious institute of the Sisters of Saint Marcellina, dedicated by vocation to the cultural and moral education of young women.
